TGPSC MPSO Syllabus 2026: Paper I General Studies and Paper II Statistics (150 marks each), topic-wise tables, weightage tips and a 30/60-day study plan.

Paper I General Studies and Paper II Statistics, topic by topic, with a 30/60-day plan
The TGPSC MPSO Syllabus 2026 is short on paper: thirteen one-line areas for General Studies and eight units for Statistics. The trouble is that each line hides a lot. "Policies of Telangana State" can mean twenty schemes; "Concept of random variable" quietly includes estimation and hypothesis testing. This page takes the official syllabus from Annexure-II of Notification No. 07/G/ES/2026 and opens every line into what you actually need to study, then gives you a 30-day and a 60-day plan that fits the 102-post Mandal Planning and Statistical Officer exam.
If you are still checking eligibility, fees or zone-wise posts, read our TGPSC MPSO Recruitment 2026 notification guide first. This page is only about what to study and how. Applications close on 27/11/2026 at 5:00 PM and the exam is tentatively in January 2027, so you have roughly 8 to 10 weeks if you start now.
✓ Apply / focus if you have a Statistics background from your degree and can give 4 to 5 hours a day to two very different papers; Paper II is where a Stats graduate can pull ahead.
✗ Skip if you are planning to study Statistics from zero in a month while also preparing for another exam; the Statistics paper is degree level and 150 questions long.
Why: the syllabus and pattern are word for word the same as the 2018 MPSO exam, so the 2018 question paper is the most reliable guide to the level, and a fixed syllabus rewards steady revision.

Best Study Approach for Telangana Candidates
- Use Telugu where it helps. Both papers are bilingual, so if you studied Telangana history in Telugu medium, read Telangana topics in Telugu and Statistics terms in English; the paper gives you both.
- Lean on official state documents for the Telangana block: the Socio-Economic Outlook, the State budget speech and department scheme pages. They are free and they are what questions are framed from.
- Solve the 2018 MPSO paper from the TGPSC old question papers section under exam time. Same syllabus, same pattern.
- Practise speed in Paper II. 150 questions in 150 minutes leaves no time to derive formulas. Make a two-page formula sheet and revise it daily.
- Do not ignore Unit VIII. Number conversions and logic gates are quick marks for anyone who spends two evenings on them.
Book Guidance (No Paid Links)
- Statistics: stick with the standard degree-level textbook you used in college (any well-known Fundamentals of Mathematical Statistics or Business Statistics text). One book revised three times beats three books.
- Telangana history and movement: the Telugu Academy books on Telangana history, culture and the movement, plus the official Telangana statehood material.
- Polity and economy: NCERT Class 11–12 books for basics; the Telangana Socio-Economic Outlook for state data.
- Reasoning and English: any standard practice book; 30 minutes a day is enough.
- Current affairs: one daily newspaper plus monthly government press releases. We do not recommend any coaching material or affiliate link.
Common Mistakes in MPSO Preparation
- Studying only GS because "everyone does Group exams" and treating Statistics as an afterthought. Paper II is half the total.
- Memorising formulas without solving grouped-data questions. Real questions mix steps.
- Skipping hypothesis testing and estimation because they "look like PG topics". They are in Unit IV of the official syllabus.
- Reading Telangana schemes from random social media lists instead of official sources.
- Never taking a full 150-question mock under time. Stamina for two 150-minute papers needs practice.
- Forgetting OMR rules: only blue or black ball point pen, no whitener, no marks or numbers anywhere else on the sheet.
