Good news for Telangana graduates who studied Statistics. TGPSC has finally put out a notification for Mandal Planning and Statistical Officer (MPSO) and Assistant Statistical Officer (ASO) posts in the Directorate of Economics & Statistics. It's 102 posts, zonal cadre, and the pay starts at Rs. 36,750. Not a huge number, but the competition here is usually limited to people with a Stats background, so your odds are better than in a general Group exam.
I went through the full 35-page notification (No. 07/G/ES/2026, dated 28/10/2026) so you don't have to. Here's everything that actually matters before you apply.

Educational Qualification
This is where most people get confused, so read carefully. You need a Bachelor's degree with any one of these:
- Statistics as one of the main subjects, or
- Mathematics as a main subject, with Statistics as a paper in one, two or all three years, or
- Economics as a main subject, with Statistics as a paper in one, two or all three years, or
- Commerce as a main subject, with Statistics as a paper in one, two or all three years, or
- Computer Science as a main subject, with Statistics as a paper in one, two or all three years.
So a plain B.Com or B.Sc (Computers) without any Statistics paper won't work. Also, your degree result must be declared on or before 28/10/2026. Distance or open university degrees are accepted only if recognised by UGC / DEB.
Age Limit
Minimum 18 and maximum 44 years as on 01/07/2026. In simple terms, you should be born between 02/07/1982 and 01/07/2008. The upper limit was raised from 34 to 44 under G.O.Ms.No.86 (18/05/2026), which is a big relief for a lot of older aspirants.
Age Relaxation
- SC / ST / BC / EWS: 5 years
- Persons with Disabilities: 10 years
- Telangana State Government employees: up to 5 years, based on regular service
- Ex-Servicemen: 3 years plus length of service in the armed forces
- NCC Instructors: 3 years plus length of service in NCC
Application Fee
| Fee Type | Amount |
|---|---|
| Application Processing Fee – OC & BC | Rs. 1,000 |
| Application Processing Fee – SC, ST & PwD | Rs. 500 |
| Examination Fee | Rs. 80 (unemployed applicants are exempted) |
Government employees of any kind (Central, State, PSU, corporations) have to pay the Rs. 80 exam fee. Payment is online through Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card or UPI. Fee is not refundable.

Selection Process
There's no interview. Selection is purely on the written exam marks.
- Written Exam (Objective): Paper-I General Studies and General Abilities, and Paper-II Statistics (degree level). Both papers are bilingual, English and Telugu. TGPSC may hold it as OMR or Computer Based (CBRT), which will be confirmed on the hall ticket.
- Certificate Verification for shortlisted candidates.
- Final selection as per merit and your web options for zones.
You must write both papers. Minimum qualifying marks: 40% for OC, EWS and Sportspersons, 35% for BCs, 30% for SC, ST and PH. If the exam runs in multiple sessions, scores will be normalised.
Syllabus in Short
Paper-I covers current affairs, general science, environment, Indian and Telangana economy and geography, polity, Telangana history, culture and movement, state policies, reasoning and data interpretation, and basic English. Paper-II covers basics of statistics, central tendency and dispersion, probability, random variables and distributions, correlation and regression, time series and index numbers, sampling techniques, and basics of computers. The full syllabus is in Annexure-II of the notification.
Salary
The pay scale is Rs. 36,750 – Rs. 1,06,990, plus the usual DA, HRA and other allowances of the Telangana government. For a degree-level post, that's a solid package, and MPSO is a respected field job at the mandal level.
