The SSC CHSL 2026 Tier-II Syllabus matters more than anything else in this exam, because your final rank comes only from Tier-II. Tier-I just gets you in the door. Tier-II has four sections on the same day: Maths and Reasoning, English and GA, a Computer Knowledge Test, and a Skill Test or Typing Test depending on the post. Here is the complete pattern and syllabus taken from the official SSC CHSL 2026 notice, explained in plain words.

If you are from Telangana or Andhra Pradesh and more comfortable in Telugu, note that Telugu is one of the exam languages. Every Tier-II objective section can be taken in your chosen language, except the English Language & Comprehension part.

⚠ Important: Negative marking in Tier-II is 1 mark per wrong answer (each question carries 3 marks). You must qualify every section, including the Computer test and the Skill/Typing test. Fail one, and the rest don’t count.

How the day runs: Session-I (2 hours 15 minutes) has Sections I, II and III back to back, and each closes automatically when its time is up. After a break for re-registration, Session-II has Section-IV. Scribe-eligible candidates get extra time: 1 hour 20 minutes each for Sections I and II, 20 minutes for Section-III and the DEO Skill Test, and 15 minutes for the Typing Test.

Negative Marking, Qualifying Marks & Final Merit

  • Marks per question: 3 in Sections I, II and III.
  • Negative marking: 1 mark for every wrong answer in Sections I, II and III.
  • Minimum qualifying marks (Section I, II and III): UR 30%, OBC/EWS 25%, all other categories 20%.
  • Final merit: Aggregate of Section-I and Section-II (360 marks), subject to qualifying Sections III and IV.
  • Tie-break: Section-I marks of Tier-II first, then Tier-I marks, then date of birth (older candidate placed higher).

  • PwD candidates certified as unable to type (as per Annexure-XIII) may be exempted from the Typing Test, not the DEO Skill Test.

How to Prepare for SSC CHSL 2026 Tier-II

Where the marks are: English alone carries 120 of the 360 merit marks, so give it daily time, especially reading comprehension and editorial-style passages. With −1 for each wrong answer (one-third of a question’s value), accuracy beats attempts. Start typing practice early. Many good scorers lose the post only because they could not clear 35 wpm on exam day.
  • Typing: Practise 20–30 minutes daily on a computer keyboard, not a phone. Aim well above 35 wpm with very few errors.
  • Computer test: It is only 15 questions, but you must qualify it. Revise MS Office, shortcuts, memory and cyber security basics.
  • Maths: Add statistics (mean, median, mode, standard deviation) and simple probability to your Tier-I preparation.
  • Mocks: Take full Session-I mocks of 2 hours 15 minutes so the long sitting does not tire you out on exam day.
